From 1910 to 1970, many indigenous australian children were stolen from their families. This was an attempt to "breed out" their darker genes, giving them a lighter complexion. These children were put in institutions and forced to read, write and speak english. Many children stolen during this period never saw their families ever again, and instead, became servants for european families.
