Martin Luther started the Protestant Reformation in 1517 by posting the 95 theses, which protested indulgences. Other major ideas included the purification of the Roman Catholic Church and that the Bible should be the only spiritual authority. This stems from Catholics now having access to the Bible, due to the Gutenberg press.
