The Charlottetown Conference (1 set 1864 ano – 9 set 1864 ano)
Descrição:
The first of 3 Conferences discussing Confederation. The Conference was organized by delegates from 3 of the Atlantic provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, & PEI) in order to discuss their union. Eventually, the Province of Canada had joined the conversation and persuaded the provinces to redirect their attention to uniting all the BNA colonies instead of just the 3 provinces. The Conference was held in the Province House, Prince Edward Island's Legislative Assembly. Notable attendees include Premier Charles Tupper from Nova Scotia, Premier Samuel Leonard Tilley from New Brunswick, Premier John Hamilton Gray & George Coles from PEI, and John A. Macdonald from the Province of Canada. Asides from discussion about Confederation, the Conference was quite a social event. There were frequent feasts, and a ball held on September 8, 1864 to finish off the Conference. At the end of the Conference, the delegates who had attended decided that they would host another conference later on in Quebec City to sort out the finer details of Confederation.
