War with Turkey (1 jan 1619 ano – 1 jan 1621 ano)

Descrição:

Until 1619 Poland and Turkey were mostly on good terms. However, Turkish fiefs bordering with Poland-Lithuania were often raided by Cossacks. In turn, Crimean Tatars often raided the Polish borderland, which due to constant conflicts playing out there was known as the Wild Fields (Dzikie Pola).

In 1619, Sigismund III was obliged to help the Habsburg emperor defend besieged Vienna from Hungarians (pierwsza odsiecz wiedeńska), Hungary being a fiefdom of Ottoman Turkey. This ended up being a reason for war.

1620 - Poland suffers a defeat in the Battle of Cecora

1621 - Poland-Lithuania reaffirms its military power and wins in the Battle of Chocim, with the help of Cossacks. Both sides sign a peace treaty, obliged to put a stop to both Cossack and Tatar raids.

The battle was a result of a Turkish attack after their victory in the battle of Cecora. This time, however, the Polish-Lithuanian forces successfully beat back the Ottomans.
