After the defeat of the Judeam Revolt, the Roman Empire's oppression of Jews in the Land of Israel worsened. When the Roman emperor Hadiran began building a temple to Jupiter on the site of the Jewish Temple, this spared a second Jewish revolt, led by Shimon bar Kochba.
Bar Kochba was supported by many leading rabbis and managed to form an independent government in Jerusalem for many years. He was considered the Messiah by many Jews at the time.
The rebellion was soon defeated by the Romans and the Jews were expelled from much of Judea in the Land of Israel.
