Pierre Flourens (1 jan 1794 ano – 1 jan 1867 ano)

Descrição:

Flourens provided evidence that the main areas of the brain were responsible for different functions. He found that by removing the cerebral hemispheres, all perceptions, motor controls and judgment also appeared to be removed (Yildirim & Sarikcioglu, 2007). His studies also showed that removing the cerebellum caused a loss in balance and motor coordination.

Because of these results, Flourens was able to conclude that the cerebral cortex was responsible for higher order thinking and that the cerebellum was implicated in regulating movement.
