During his rule (and earlier), his council's policies lead to depleting the royal treasury.

To convince the magnates to support him in his actions to strenghten the king's authority again, he granted them a lot of land.

This lead to securing the throne for his son Sigismund vivente rege - already during his own rule (the nobility could freely choose from among the royal house at this point).

Subsequently, an opposition movement of the nobility called the executionist movement was formed.
