Iran-Contra (20 ago 1985 ano – 4 mar 1987 ano)
Descrição:
In Nicaragua, the Contras fought against the Cuban-backed Sandinistas over communism. However, the Boland Amendment restricted the CIA and Department of Defense from involvement in Nicaragua, making U.S. support for the Contras' efforts almost impossible. During this time, Iran and Iraq were at war, and Iran requested to buy weapons from the U.S., although there was an embargo. The Reagan Administration decided to sell weapons to Iran in hopes of securing the release of American hostages, and used the money to fund the Contras in Nicaragua. Therefore, the U.S. had bargained with terrorists, went against a trade embargo, and illegally funded the Contras in Nicaragua.
