In 1948, Mao's forces dominated the Korean War. Jiang appealed for help from the US but the US refused to help him because he was corrupt. In 1949, Jiang fled to the Chinese mainland and took control of Taiwan. Mao's communist then took control of the most populous country, naming it the People's Republic of China.
