This is when kids start thinking independently and understanding where they fit in and how they show start acting. Kids are starting to develop abstract thinking and have the potential for mature moral reasoning. Abstract thoughts are when people have thoughts that are symbolic and conceptual and not concrete or specific. For kids there first thoughts that aren't concrete are like "why am I the one washing the dishes" and "why isn't my curfew later" and things like that.
