The First World War was one of the largest wars in history and was instigated by the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Britain Joined World War I by declaring war on Germany after Germany violated Belgium’s neutrality to invade France and did not respond to Britain’s ultimatum. More than 70 million military personnel were mobilised and over 16 million people were killed. The war ended with an armistice signed by Germany. Afterwards, borders were redrawn and the Paris Peace Conference occurred.
