Dr. Doris Givens (2011-2017) becomes the first Woman and the 1st African-American President of KCKCC. In 2017 Givens was awarded the Public Advocate of the Year Award by the College Debate Team for being the only Community College President to stand with her Board of Trustees against removal of tenure in Kansas. She also presented arguments to the Kansas legislature opposing the conceal and carry law on college campuses for which she later received the Public Advocate for Social Change Award.

In July, Dr. Doris Givens, President of KCKCC, is put on administrative leave and Dr. Ed Kremer becomes Interim-President. Dr. Jackie Vietti becomes Acting President and Dr. Givens retires in August.
