John Brown, an abolitionist from Connecticut, attempted to start a slave revolt that would end slavery once and for all. So with financial support from some prominent people from the North, Brown’s 22-men “army” decided to raid Harpers Ferry for its weapons, which led to skirmishes. However, General Robert E. Lee’s troops captured the surviving men of the army and hung them afterwards.
