Ferdinand Magellan was a Portugese defector who circumnavigated the globe for the first time in history. When the Portugese refused to fund his voyage to try and prove that the world was round he defected to the Spanish and found the funds he needed. This voyage rendered the Line of Demarcation void because the world was found to be round.
