The emperor Vespasian of Rome wanted to give something to the people of Rome unlike the disliked Emperor Nero before him. The Colosseum is located just east of the Roman Forum. Vespasian chose this location as he wanted to return to the people of Rome that lush land near the city centre where Nero had previously built himself a gigantic palace named the Golden Palace. Vespasian ordered the colosseum to be under construction as an entertainment theatre for the people of Rome. The Colosseum was made out of mostly limestone, tuff (volcanic rock) and brick faced concrete.
