Cleo and Caesar (1 jan 46 ano antes da era comum – 1 abr 44 ano antes da era comum)
Descrição:
- Cleo had followed caesar to rome. She only left rome once caesar had died
- She came with her brother and son. At this point she was still married to Ptolemy XIV
- This trip was totally unneccesary
• She wasn’t begging for support from rome, nor was she forced to be there
• Maybe she came to create official ties with rome on a more business level
• Maybe caesar was showing the romans that he was "in control" of egypt (could have been a power move)
- There were 4 triumphs that Caesar had to celebrate this
• Arsinoe, Cleo's sister was also marched in his triumph (so MAYBE cleo watched her sister walk in chains)
○ Arsinoe is set free to Ephesus bc the people just loooved her
- We don’t have a lot of information on Cleopatra's stay in rome
• She stayed in caesars estate across the Tiber River
• On the Esquiline Hill
• Lots of gossip about the arrangeents bc it was basically a doubly-adulterous liason
○ Both caesar and cleopatra are married but shes staying at her ex-lovers (?) house
- Lots of social reform in Caesar; COULD possibly be bc of cleo
• Calendars, libraries and canal that were seen in alexandria could have impacted what he wanted to do/make in rome
