The battle of Edge Hill (Oct 23, 1642) was the first battle of the English Civil War. This battle took place in some open country between Banbury and Warwick, and was lead by Robert Devereux, who was the 3rd earl of Essex, lead a small army to delay Charles I’s march to London. This fatally delayed Charles I’s march.
