People within the UK in 1920s Britain consumed media through newspaper or radio broadcasts
1936 John Logie Baird created the television.
1962 a general strike meant no newspapers were printed for 9 days, their absence began the BBC broadcasting 5 times a day.
In 1955, commercial or independent television did much to fire up the BBC.
1964 the BBC opened a second channel.
1967 BBC television channel ended up forming colour.
It was some time before the quality of ITV programming was recognised in drama (1956-74).
Channel 4 came out in 1982 with a new remit. It was fore diverse a range of audiences not served in BBC and ITV.
The broadcasting acts of 1990 and 1996 legislated for a new television environment in which regulations of independent television was loosened, and digital broadcasting promised to provide even more channels than analogue cable and satellite.
