first people to come.15 BC: The romans came up the Rhine with a
large army.They conquered the celtic region of Basel. They
constructed a roman fort on the minster-hill. It
was neither a residential-city nor was it a civic
community in the way of the latin "civis" with a
large civilian population they came here
because of physical geography (for the same
reason why the kelts lived here; because of the
safety they had from behind the hills and
