1851: Edward Hargraves Discovers gold Ophir - near Orange, NSW
1851 Bendigo Gold Rush Began
1848: The California gold rush began.
1858: The largest gold nugget to ever exist, Welcome Stranger was found at Bendigo while the gold rush was happening.
1846: Gold was (for the first time) found in South Australia. At Castambul.
1851: The Ballarat gold rush started.
1854: The Eureka Stockade started after a miner was murdered.
1823: Government Surveyor James McBrien discovers traces of gold in the Fish River, east of Bathurst.
1866: Gold discovered in Queensland, at Rockhampton.
1851: First payable gold discovered at Ophir in NSW - beginning of the great Australian gold rush
1885: The Western Australian Government had offered £5000 to anyone who could find gold. As a result, gold was found in several parts of the State. These discoveries led to increased money for the State and many people.
The Perth Mint established to profit from Australia's richest goldfield at Kalgoorlie.
1867: Gold was discovered at the Gympie goldfields.
