November 7th, 2000 - Election Day Al Gore v George W. Bush A very close election, whoever wins Florida wins the presidency.
November 14th, New Deadline for the initial machine recount. The rest of the U.S. has finished counting votes but Florida is given a new deadline due to ballots lost because of chad.
November 15th, Florida Supreme Court denies the request to block hand recounts of ballots. Secretary of State Catherine Harris states she will not consider further returns from counties still conducting recounts.
November 15th, Gore campaign wants a hand recount. Gore asks for four counties, all Democratic, gives the impression that he doesn't care for the Republican counties or all of the ballots.
November 19, Miami-Dade County begins a manual recount.
November 21st, The Florida Supreme Courts first decision, rules that manual recounts may continue and the totals must be included in the final results.
November 26th, New Deadline Katherine Harries denies 5 p.m. deadline by 90 minutes, left 1,000 ballots uncounted. Harris certifies George W. Bush the winner of Florida.
December 4th, Gore v. Harris The Florida Supreme Court refuses Gore's request to overturn George W. Bush's certified statewide victory.
December 12th, Safe Harbor Deadline "Deadline for the resolution of elector controversies to qualify for "conclusive" protection under Title 3, U.S. Code, Section 5. The Florida Supreme Court upholds two state court rulings that allow 25,000 absentee ballots from Martin and Seminole counties to remain in the state's official vote tally." (uselectionatlas)
December 9th, The Florida Supreme Court denies Bush's application for a stay. The U.S. Supreme Court, divided 5-4, issues a stay in Gore v. Bush to stop the manual recounts.
December 11th, U.S. Supreme Court Hearing U.S. Supreme Court hears oral arguments in Gore v. Bush. on the Florida recount.
December 13th, Gore gives nationally broadcast speech, accepting Bush as the 43rd President of the United States.
December 18th, Electors from each state cast their votes. George Bush receives 271 votes and Al Gore receives 266 votes. Bush Wins!
