HTML 1.0 is created and primarily hosted at CERN. Over the next 5 years it would go under many extensions.
HTML 2.0 is beginning to be formed. It was planned to have all the features of 1.0 and more.
HTML 3.0 is made in an attempt to expand after the creation of the W3C. HTML 3.0 was a failure and soon replaced.
HTML 3.2 was finished and replaced HTML 3.0. HTML4 would then replace HTML 3.2 later the same year.
The W3C decided not to use HTML anymore, but XML coding instead. They made an identical software called XHTML to replace HTML4.
XHTML is released. XHTML is much more strict in its coding and doesn’t allow its users to have lapses in coding and structure.
People realize XML is limited to new technologies and there is a renewed interest in HTML. HTML is begins to be improved again.
The creation of HTML 5 begins by a company called WHATWG. Many large companies like Apple, Mozilla, and Opera announced their support. W3C also announces it support for the project.
The first public draft of HTML 5 is released to the public.
WHATWG and W3C decide to split the development of HTML5. W3C worked on the “definitive standard” and WHATWG worked on the “living standard.”
W3C completes its test to make sure HTML5 is a finished product. W3C officially recommends HTML5.
HTML 5.3 is released. WHATWG plans to call newer versions just HTML and not include version numbers.
