Some historians think that the ziggurat at the city of Uruk was the Tower of Babel from the Bible. Ur is speculated to have been the most populated city-state with around 65,000 people. The Sumerian number system is based on the number 60. They used it for time, 60 seconds being in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour.
Sargon founded the world's first empire. Before starting his Empire, Sargon served the king of the city-state of Kish. Sargon was the one of first rulers to form a permanent army.
Babylon's most famous king was Hammurabi. He was a great leader but known better for his set of 282 laws called "Hammurabi's Code". Nebuchadnezzar had a moat built around the city of Babylon for defense. When Alexander the Great was on his conquest, he snagged Babylon. While staying there, he got sick and later died.
The Hittites mastered the chariot by firing arrows from it in battle. They captured Babylon, but didn't hold power for long as 95 years. The Hittites were probably the first people to master iron working.
The Kassites swooped in and took Babylon from the Hittites when they were weakened by repeated attacks. The Kassites gripped Babylon control for 400 years until the Assyrians invaded. Not much info is know about the Kassites.
Assyria had allies that were weak and depended on their military support. Assyria's capital was Ashur. That capital still exists as an Iraqi city. Assyria was fierce in battle and did not accept defeat. The empire was destroyed by Alexander the Great of the Macedonian Empire.
The Chaldeans are mentioned many times in the Old Testimate of the Christian Bible. The Chaldean King Nebuchadnezzar rebuilt Babylon into an amazingly beautiful city, and his palace featuring the Hanging Gardens. After the rebuilding of Babylon, the Chaldeans admired Sumerian culture and they made Babylon a centre for astronomy.
