battle of lexington and concord: this was the first battle of the revolution. this battle was provoked when a british commander recieved word of the patriots possessing powder and weapons.
battle of bunker hill: this battle resulted in the patriots being pushed back outside of boston. this was a natural extention of the battle of lexington and concord.
publication of common sense: a novel by thomas paine encouraging independence among the colonies. this panflit encouraged idea of the declaration of independence.
the signing of the declaration of independence: this was the official seperation from great britian. these ideas were inspired by philosophers such as locke and paine
battle of trenton & princeton: over the course of this battle, washington crossed over the deleware river on christmas day, hessian mercenaries were ambushed, & american victory increased the morale of the people.
creation of the articles of confederation: articles created in order to establish foreign diplomacy, set currency, resolve to conflict between states, and to coordinate the war effort against great britian.
treason of benedict arnold: being born in noriwch, connecticut, benedict arnold switches over to the british side. he is promised a large portion of money and a high position in the british army if he hands over west point to the british.
battle of cowpens: the continental army defeats british. this was a major victory for the southern colonies after losing several previous battles. this increased their morale and they won the battle of yorktown in the following year
battle of guilford courthouse: british victory that leave troops weak after chasing greene across south carolina. british are tired for upcoming battles.
signing of the treaty of paris of 1783: new found american independence allowed officials to finally establish boarders. the only problem was that it never specified when the british troops had to leave, so they stuck around.
collapse of the iroquois confederacy: what was once the unification of 6 native american tribes begins to dissapear due to the fact that they were no longer protected by the proclamation line, forcing tribes to the west and parts of canada.

meeting of the 1st continental congress: this meeting was to established in order to petition the king, prepare militias, and to boycott the british.
the second continential congress: influenced by thomas paine, created continental army and encouraged the declaration of independence.
battle of brooklyn: the british now control new york & washington was pushed into pennsylvania (low morales)
battle of saratoga: this was the turning point of the war when the french allied with the americans, allowing for american vistory as result.
winter at valley forge: rough conditions led to low morale, starvation, & desertion for troops. they struggled to get basic supplies such as blankets in order to make it through the cold conditions but funding from a new colony can be difficult.
battle of yorktown: after american and french troops surround the british, cornwallis surrenders the british army.
the northwest indian wars: americans vs native americans in the fight over northwest territory. with the help of british troops, native americans stll manage to lose over all, resulting in yet another victory for the americans.
shay's rebellion: farmers were in debt, losing their farms, and forced to pay high state taxes. the rebellion against this took ten months to stop, but it proved the need for a more powerful central government.
