On the 19th of August 1942, Allies raided the French coastal port, Dieppe. This was the first attempt at trying to break Hitler’s “Fortress Europe”. This raid did not at all work, the final death count was 900 Canadian soldiers. Although it did provide some insight into what the allied forces should do in the future. Many Canadians were involved in this fight. Their sacrifice ended up helping thoroughly in the future of the war, giving useful information into what we should change for the future if we wanted to break the “Fortress Europe”.
