I have often heard it and usually seen it in movies, such as scenes where the main character is falling or dying or some prolonged tragedy where they can overlap the song. This leads me to why they often play Ave Maria: the musical elements are perfect for a dramatic sense, and they might use a slow-mo falling scene for an intense fighting sense. The melody is lyrical, flowing, and deeply expressive. A flowing melody would be perfect for senses where someone is falling, and their hair is flowing in the wind. The song has a calming vibe and is remarkable for death-by-falling. The texture is primarily homophonic, which means the “music is characterized by a clear melody line supported by accompanying chords or harmonies (Hoffman Academy).” The piece is strophic, meaning the same music is used in every verse. Overall, this is a classic piece that I never knew who wrote.
