1 jan 1599 ano - English East India Company and Dutch VOC

Descrição:

English and Dutch merchants also began to build trading posts on Asian coasts to channel trade through them. They were able to do so because the forms of government found in England and the Dutch Republic allowed merchants considerable prominence and influence while government policies also reflected the interests of commercial empires overseas. The English merchants concentrated on India and built trading posts at Bombay, Madras, and Calcutta while the Dutch operated more broadly from Cape Town, Colombo and Batavia. They also conduced trade through a new form of business organization known as Joint Stock Companies in order to maximize profit and spread risks in investment projects. The English East India Company and the Dutch VOC were advanced by private merchants, and they were outfitted with ships and crews. Under the system of capitalism, they were private businesses but enjoyed government support. Their charters also granted them the right to buy, sell, build trading posts and even make war in the company's interests.
