27 maio 1979 ano - Dan White trial (1979)
Descrição:
Dan White, the murderer of Harvey Milk, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter after his defense team employed the infamous Twinkie defense. White claimed his motives were not targeted at Milk's LGBTQIA+ initiatives but rather his depression and jealousy of Milk. The defense claimed White was impaired due to his depression and his recent switch from a low-sugar diet.
White was sentenced to 7 years, 5 of which he served in prison. In response to the lenient sentence, thousands of protestors flooded San Francisco's City Hall causing extensive damage. A peaceful protest occurs the next night to commemorate what would have been Harvey Milk's 49th birthday.
