29 dez 1648 ano - 1649 - Charles I - Beheaded
Descrição:
Charles I (James I’s son) took over the throne (succeeded him) and he proved to be an even more stubborn defender of absolute royal power. He disbanded the Parliament from 1629 to 1640, imposed and collected taxes at will without approval, and allowed the systematic persecution of Puritans. He even went as far as to try and impose Anglican customs on Presbyterians Scots, which caused Scotland to revolt in 1638. Desperate for money, Charles I demanded the Parliament to raise taxes to defend his throne. However, the Parliament declined this request which led to Charles I to try to arrest five members of the Parliament. Parliamentary forces captured Charles I 1646 and tried him for treason and for being an enemy of the public; he was later beheaded in 1649.
