Sr Walter Raleigh (Gilbert’s half brother), renewed his half brother’s colonization intention, but under his own name, and he and his troup discovered the outer banks of North Carolina, and landed in Roanoke Island. He named the area Virginia, in honor of Queen Elizabeth, the Virgin Queen.
