22 mar 1765 ano - The Stamp Act

Descrição:

In order to pay for the expenses it cost them to begin the thirteen colonies, Britain put a tax on all the thirteen colonies. This was the first direct British tax on the colonists, and it required all pamphlets, newspapers, and other legal and public documents to have a British seal or stamp on it. These seals and stamps cost money, and the colonists felt that they shouldn't have to pay for something that had been free for years. This resulted in many angry protests and even the formation of various groups, like the Stamp Act Congress and the Sons of Liberty. These groups led protests against the British government and fought to change the many unfair laws that had been forced upon them.
