The Phoenix Force, summoned by the Hellfire Club, returns to Earth and inhabits the collective minds of Emma Frost's daughters. During their attempt to control it, the Phoenix destroys the Club and it's members. Phoebe, Irma, and Celeste's presence disrupts the connection, and draws it into just the three of them, using the energy-absorption powers inherited from their father. Charles Xavier, Rachel Summers, Betsy Braddock, and Emma Frost help to contain the Phoenix and destroy it once and for all. Charles Xavier dies as a result of the stress from the attack. In his final moments, his mind reaches into the astral plane, and he is welcomed by the mind of Jean Grey.
