- As in the Santa Sofia altarpiece (which is lost), Mantegna signed his work in calligraphic
writing inspired by antiquity, applied to a piece of parchment that seems to have been glued
onto the marble parapet in the painting itself
- Figure leaning out of the frame, leaving the parapetto → the elbow and also the book → the
way they are placed suggests spatial depth
- ↳This is related to flemish art - Van Eyck por exemplo - spatial depth Flemish idea with the
foreshortening objects and use of light to underline texture and details. Idea of cartiglio (piece
of paper scroll) just like the inscriptions of Van Eyck
