The pre-recorded video to the Hollywood Beauty Awards is the first glimpse of Johnny Depp’s new tattoo - RES IPSA LOQUITUR - around his collar bone. We are not sure of the exact date for the creation of this tattoo but the phrase, which means ‘the matter speaks for itself’ was on Johnny’s mind when he spoke to his friend Doug Stanhope on 4 February 2020.

It is likely that this tattoo was worked on during January 2020 as Johnny did appear at the NAMM Imperial Ball on 18 January with scarves unusually high and tightly wrapped around his neck and this look continued in the photographs we have of the rehearsals throughout the following week so maybe the scarves could were hiding a tattoo in progress.

At Musicares on 24 January the big scarves were gone but Johnny wore a tight T-shirt that covered his collar bone making it impossible to know if the tattoo was complete by this time.

After the glimpse in the pre-recorded video of 6 February, Johnny unveiled the full tattoo at Shepard Fairey’s birthday party on 15 February 2020.

MEANING:

“Res Ipsa Loquitur” is Latin for “The thing speaks for itself” a Law doctrine that infers negligence from the very nature of an accident or injury in the absence of direct evidence on how any defendant behaved that causes a claimant to suffer:
- Loss or harm
- Emotional distress
- Negligence
- Financial losses
- Physical injuries
- Reputation Injuries
- Invasion of privacy and property
- Defamation
- Product liability
- and many other things.

As we know, ALL of these examples were caused to Johnny throughout the last years by Amber Heard.
