1492 AD: On January 2, 1492, Boabdil, the last sultan of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, surrendered the the city of Granada to Ferdinand and Isabella putting an end to the Reconquista. The initial terms of surrender guaranteed the remaining Muslims their property, laws, customs, and religion. However, approximately 200,000 Muslims emigrated to North Africa following Granada's fall.
