9 ago 1844 ano - Benin City Palace Ancestral Altar Dedicated to Oba Ovonramwen
Descrição:
The history of how these items were obtained from their original place is a bit of a sad story.
There was an attempted invasion on the Edo people that went sour leaving only two British men survivors. These men went back to Britain and called for reinforcments. The expedtion then lead by Britain destoryed much of Benin and the royal palace took many of the valubles of the city to England.
The alter figures are comprised of ivory, brass, and coral objects.
