With this photograph marks the showing of Western colonization of Africa. Here king Njoya has just given his fathers throne as a gift to what was then the German ruler in exchange for a newly commisioned throne and a German soldier uniform.

The throne itself holds quite the bit of symbolism as the two figures standing the tallest are supposed to be the ancestors that look over the king's shoulder as though they are backing his decision and power. Then where the feet are to rest are smaller figures holding guns suggesting literally that the military rule rest at the King's feet.

All of this is decorated via wood, color, and colored beads.
