During the conflict between Israeli forces and the Egyptian army in Operation Yoav, the Harel Brigade embarked on a parallel mission termed "El Ha-Har" on October 19, 1948. Their goal was to extend Jewish control over the Jerusalem Corridor and neutralize Egyptian military pockets without provoking the Jordanian Arab Legion, which had concentrated its forces in Bethlehem and Hebron to safeguard these areas for Arab inhabitants.

The operation's focal point was capturing Dayr Aban, south of Mahseya, where Egyptian forces and local militias were positioned close to Israeli troops. The attack was initiated under moonlight, led by a company of foreign conscripted men (Hebrew: אנשי גח"ל), using artillery and "Davidka" mortars. A strategic use of a phonograph blasting the sounds of machine-gun fire amplified the attack's intensity, leading to the rapid withdrawal of Egyptian forces from Dayr Aban. The engagement resulted in minimal Israeli casualties, with just one deputy battalion commander from the Fifth Battalion injured when he momentarily left his bunker.
