The Treaty of 1818, also known as the Convention of 1818, was an agreement between the United States and Great Britain that settled boundary disputes in the Pacific Northwest and established the 49th parallel as the border between British North America and the United States up to the Rocky Mountains. This treaty also allowed for joint occupation and settlement of the Oregon Territory by both British subjects and American citizens for ten years, promoting peaceful coexistence and cooperation in the region.
