1 jan 1914 ano - Marcus Garvey and the UNIA
Descrição:
Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican-born political activist, formed the 'Universal Negro Improvement Association' in 1914. He founded the UNIA in Jamaica but its main influence was in the US, especially in urban neighborhoods. Garvey and the UNIA were dedicated to racial pride, economic self-sufficiency and the formation of an independent Black nation in Africa. Although Garvey was critisized by African Americans, such as W.E.B. DU Bois and the NAACP, as an imposter, his work was influential on the formation of Black pride.
