1 jan 1933 ano - 1933 Palestine riots

Descrição:

The 1933 Palestine riots were a series of violent clashes in Mandatory Palestine sparked by Arab resentment towards Jewish migration and British facilitation of land purchases. The riots began with a banned Arab demonstration in Jerusalem on October 13, 1933, and escalated into the "Jaffa massacre" on October 27, resulting in further unrest across Haifa and Nablus. Sectarian violence between Jewish and Arab communities in Mandatory Palestine started with the 1920 Syrian crisis and intensified with the return of Palestinian Arab nationalists led by Haj Amin al-Husseini. Tensions rose due to competing ideologies over land rights. The riots unfolded in five phases, starting in Jerusalem on October 13 and spreading to Jaffa, Haifa, and Nablus. The clashes resulted in casualties on both sides, with the police firing on demonstrators and demonstrators attacking police. The total casualties included 1 policeman killed, 56 injured, and 26 civilians killed, with 187 injured. Fifteen riot leaders were sentenced but later released on appeal. A Commission of Inquiry, while exonerating police actions, was formed. The riots foreshadowed the larger Arab revolt of 1936–1939 against British rule, targeting both British authorities and the Palestinian Jewish community.
