Born as Isabella Bomfree in New York. She was born into slavery and had 5 children with another enslaved man. Truth advocated for abolition, temperance, and civil and women’s rights. She dictated her autobiography “The Narrative of Sojourner Truth” that was published in 1850. As well as her famous speech “Ain’t I a Woman?” from 1851.
