'Look Back in Anger' was a play that attacked the attitudes of the establishment. It was very controversial but also demonstrates the 'satire boom' in the 1950s and early 60s. Many shows and pieces of art were made satirising the establishment.

The writer of 'Look Back in Anger' was apart of a group of writers who came to be known as the 'angry young men'. They were a group of writers that produced plays and books that they thought reflected contemporary society. They would often focus around realist stories of the working class.

Many of the working class seemed to have a distain for the establishment- 65% of the working class voted for Labour in 1951. This may be because of the Conservatives approach to appealing to the middle class- 80% of the middle class voted for Conservatives in 1951.
