A Press Release of August 27, 2018 got a lot of attention on TWITTER and is about a beautiful piece of research developed by a multidisciplinary team of two Departments of Engineering and an Art Institute (1).
‘ARIES: ARtImageExplorationSpace’ provides a web-based software platform that simplifies the exploration, analysis, and organization of digital image collections (2). Most important: the new tool is free for everyone to try out (3).
This post explores some of ARIES’ many functionalities with the image collection of BOTTICELLI’s ‘Primavera’ and its imitations, presented in the foregoing post (4).
But ARIES does not (yet) provide a means to ‘measure’ similarity of images, and thus another free web-tool was tried out in this exercise, because ‘measurement’ is a primordial goal of ‘digital art history’ (5).
