Dr Bonnie Jacobs was not a witness in either the UK or VA Trial. Amber Heard's therapy notes from her therapy sessions with Dr Bonnie Jacobs were not actually entered into evidence in either trial although they were listed on Amber Heard’s VA exhibit list.
Following the VA Trial Ms Heard did refer to the notes as ‘evidence of her claims’ and they became proffer exhibits in her VA Appeal filing. Thereafter they were either purchased from the court (or leaked) and found their way onto the internet.
Amber Heard saw therapist Dr Bonnie Jacobs from late 2011until 2014. From August 2014 until early 2016 Ms Heard saw Dr Cowan whom she was referred to via Dr Kipper. On 1 April 2019 Amber Heard returned to therapy with Dr Jacobs, exactly one month after Johnny Depp sued her in Fairfax Virginia.
Dr Bonnie Jacobs’ therapy notes are said to be proof of Ms Heard’s claims although there are many discrepancies and deviations from the accepted timeline and proven substantiated events. Moreover therapy notes are not medical notes and as such are generally regarded as hearsay in the court of law unless the lawyers make a strong case for their inclusion. Therapists however can speak as to their observations and first hand experience i.e. not a one sided version of events related to them during therapy but if they saw bruises or observed certain behaviours.
