(A constitution is the rules by which a country must follow when being governed)
- All Germans above the age of 20 could vote
- Proportional representation system for voting
- presidential elections every 7 years
- Reichstag elections every 4 years
- Chancellors needed the support of at least half of the Reichstag before imposing anything
- Article 48 (a law that allowed the chancellor to be able to pass a law without the need of the Reichstag, this was only meant for emergencies)
- Freedom of speech
Strengths of the constitution:
- more equality
- elections allowed the public to have a say in the government they wanted
- new voting system allowed minorities to have a better chance at being elected
- article 48 was useful in emergencies
Weaknesses:
- 7 years is a long time for a president, especially if the president isn't good
- the new voting system could lead to extreme parties being elected
- Article 48 was abused and ended up being used 66 times in one year
- getting a law approved by the Reichstag takes a lot of time
