On June 4 and 7, the American and Japanese Navy engaged in naval combat near the island of Midway. During the battle, both forces suffered major causalities, including 4 Japanese aircraft carriers and 2 American ships. This was the turning point of the Pacific Theatre as it put Japan on the defensive.
