1 out 1886 ano - The Somatic Paradigm & Psychogenic Paradigm (19th & 20th Century)
Descrição:
The Somatic Paradigm emphasizes the importance of physiological and biological factors in influencing psychological phenomena. Wundt's emphasis on psychophysics and the study of the mind through laboratory experimentation laid the groundwork for a scientific approach to understanding the relationship between the body and the mind. The Psychogenic Paradigm stated that disease is caused and cured by mind alone. These new paradigms and new understandings such as Structural (observable) disease vs. Functional (unobservable) diseases helped shift the public and educational perception toward disease and cure in psychology. Thus, treatments began to change as well; focusing more on the mind rather than the body (VanMattson, 2023, Leture 6).
