The Compromise of 1850 was legislation passed on September 09, 1850 that admitted California to the union as a free state, which in return did not regulate the slave to free state. This provided a territoral government for New Mexico and Utah. Within this compromise included and strengthen The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. It was written by Henry Clay and Stephan Douglas. It postponed hostilities with the north and south, because it was created to keep both sides of the union pleased and at ease. It was significant because it reinforced structural disparities by increasing the polarization between the freed and enslaved people.
