1 jan 1794 ano - The Cotton Gin Was Invented Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin in 1794. Before his invention of the cotton gin it was very labor intensive not only to separate the fiber from the cotton seed but to raise the cotton as well. Only large farms found this process cost effective. Now though with the invention of the cotton gin it created a massive increase in the amount of cotton being produced because anyone could now earn a profit from it. This invention created a big surge in the economy. .
